In the late 1970s/early 80s I attended OU and lived in Norman, where my favorite restaurant was the elegant Legend’s. It was a special place to dine. Now, 45 years later, Legend’s continues to thrive.
When we were first back to Oklahoma after a 30-year absence, I met two friends from college – who I hadn’t seen in years – at Legend’s for our nostalgic reunion. Our Thanksgiving dinner there a few days ago was my first return since then. I have no good excuse for it taking three years to dine at Legend’s again, other than it’s a bit of a schlep from northwest Oklahoma City!
Thanksgiving 2024
Thanksgiving at Legend’s was nostalgic and lovely, from starting with an old holiday standard, pink ambrosia salad, and on to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, ham, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, snap peas and cranberry sauce, with multiple dessert selections, including traditional pumpkin pie! Pics below.
For the regular menu, visit the Legend’s site here. Legend’s continues to serve my favorites from college days – first, a chicken salad and, second, chicken crepes, served with Hollandaise sauce and a baked apple. And Legend’s continues to showcase their beguiling desserts, enticing diners upon entry!

On another note from the past (not food-related), one of my many living experiences during my OU days was at the apartment building (at the time called “The Scholar’s Inn”) behind Legend’s. The building is still there, but it looks much better than while I lived there. No, I didn’t choose to live there because it was near my favorite restaurant. Housing was limited (often roach-infested, as I recall — or at least the ones I looked at) when I attended OU, and an apartment was available there when I needed one. Not one of my better experiences, as the unit was cinder block, stark, cold and uninviting. One night I couldn’t get out the front (and only) door. The door had warped, and I couldn’t get it open! As I recall, my stay there was short.
Hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and long weekend. I am thankful for readers, thankful for being back in Oklahoma and thankful for new leadership in our country.
